What can anyone really say? This is yet another moment in the history of man that offers nothing but more disappointment. The question can be asked, of course, whether or not anyone did enough to try and connect with this guy considering it was very obvious to everyone that he was in a dark place. From the sound of it though, I really do not think it would have mattered much. When someone is that deeply consumed by anger hate and self loathing there really is not a whole lot one can do. For a person who was where this guy was no gesture, regardless of how genuine and true, is viewed for what it really is. Instead, to the person in question, they are viewed as expressions of pity or as manufactured only because of how much pain they had to wear on their sleeve before someone would finally pay attention to them or give them the time of day. This anger can then very quickly turn into self hatred and feelings of shame for having been so openly weak and broken to have caused someone to feel pity for the person, which can then very quickly turn in to projected rage towards those viewed as the perpetrators. This just touches the surface of what it can be like. It is a vicious whirlwind of emotions from one moment to the next and it only leads to the destruction of life whether it be others or the person them self.
Things like this must be burned into our memories to remind us how short life can be and how precious these lives of ours are. We must not waste these lives. I could not imagine how horrific this experience must be for the friends and loved ones of these victims or must have been for those who witnessed this massacre as it was occurring and I can imagine how beautiful these people were that were lost. My heart cries out for them all.
